Contractors to take over town rehab project

Recycling; resurfacing; paving; pothole patching and more form part of the scope of work to be undertaken by the contractors

Another site inspection in the CBD was conducted last week by municipal officials.

The delegation from Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality visited streets where repairs and maintenance is desperately needed.

According to the municipality’s Communication Unit, road rehabilitation starting from the corner of Albert and Connor Street; recycling; resurfacing; paving; pothole patching; and repairs to drainage and storm-water infrastructure is on the cards.

“Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality has appointed a variety of contractors to conduct the work. The projects will last a period of four months. Appointed construction companies will create temporary job opportunities to local communities and businesses through sub-contracting,” said the municipality.

A municipal delegation launched the Town Rehabilitation Programme in April this year. However, it came to a standstill weeks later, with still no word as to what happened.

The last correspondence from the acting municipal manager (in June) spoke of challenges with materials and equipment.
