A teenager will spend the next four decades behind bars after being found guilty of murder. The 15-year-old boy was sentenced to 43 years in jail for the murder of a school principal. He was also found guilty of: theft of a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as robbery with aggravating circumstances.
The teenager was sentenced last Thursday (November 21) in the Nongoma Regional Court.
The principal of Bhekintinta High School in Nongoma, Alpheus Mphumuzeni Ntuli (61), was reported missing in April last year. Officers were driving back to the police station from Ntuli’s residence at Bhanganoma cottages when they spotted his vehicle along Mkhuze Road. When they approached the vehicle, it sped off. Police found the abandoned vehicle later that day.
Ntuli’s body was also found later that day under a bridge on a riverbank in the Odwaleni area. He had open wounds to the head and his body was covered in bruises.
Following up on leads during their investigation, police traced the teenage suspect to his home at kwaSnqandi, Toyisa area. They found the boy in possession of a firearm and ammunition he had stolen from his grandfather. He was arrested and made several court appearances before pleading guilty to all charges.
