Men arrested for possession of illegal firearm and drugs

A .38 revolver, 9mm magazine, one round of ammunition and suspected heroin capsules were seized

Two suspects, aged 27 and 29, appeared in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court today (September 20), facing charges relating to the possession of an illegal firearm and narcotics.

This follows high-density operations in the Ezakheni area.

Following up on information received, police officers swooped on a premises in the Pieters area. They surprised the occupant and a search of the premises resulted in the recovery of a .38 revolver, a 9mm magazine and one round of ammunition. The 27-year-old suspect was arrested.

The same group of officers held a ‘stop and search’ operation, during which they searched a 29-year-old individual in the Emcitsheni area.

He was found to be in possession of capsules suspected to be heroin. Cash suspected to be the proceeds of crime was also found and seized by police. The 29-year-old suspect was promptly arrested.

Both men appeared in court today.

The recovered firearm will be subject to ballistic testing and the capsules will be sent for analysis.
