Newcastle residents warned about fake facebook account posing as municipal official

The Newcastle Municipality has warned residents over a fraudulent Facebook account impersonating one of its officials, Bongani Masilela.

According to the communications department, the imposter attempts o deceive people by offering fake job opportunities in exchange for R1 500 in cash or alternatively, sexual favours.

“These claims are completely false, disgusting, and part of the sham. Please be vigilant and do not fall victim to this scam. Report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately. Stay safe!”

The department confirmed that ‘municipal jobs are not for sale as the municipality follows a fair and transparent recruitment process.’

“All Newcastle Municipality job opportunities are advertised on the official website at www.newcastle.gov.za.

“The public is warned against making payments in exchange for jobs, as this qualifies as corruption. Those found committing such a crime will have to face the wrath of the law and will be prosecuted,” concluded the statement.
