Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team tally up the arrests

Local law enforcement have successfully arrested several suspects for various crimes during the month of August.

  • 23 suspects behind bars after weekend operation:

Nine suspects were apprehended for various crimes during Friday’s a high-density operation.

The operation was conducted by Madadeni SAPS, Osizweni Saps, Newcastle SAPS, Groenvlei SAPS, Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team (CCPA), and Barnard Security.

Those arrested were charged for, among other crimes, drunken driving, assault GBH, sexual assault, and domestic violence.

Another 14 suspects were apprehended the following day (August 10), when the operation continued.

These were for offences including sexual assault, assault GBH, drunken driving, shoplifting, burglary, and intimidation/contravention of a protection order.

  • House burglar caught and arrested:

A suspect believed to be involved in house burglaries was arrested after information was received that the suspect was trying to sell the stolen property in the CBD.

An operational team made up of the Newcastle Stabilised Unit’s Sgt. Birbal and the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team (CCPA) (Imran) reacted to a tip-off that resulted in the burglar’s arrest.

He was handed over to the SAPS and charged for possession of suspected stolen goods.

  • High profile crime syndicate member arrested for business burglary:

Law enforcement officials recently received a tip-off that a business burglar was in progress at a local franchise store.

A team consisting of the Newcastle SAPS drug task team, SAPS’ stabilisation unit (D-Shift), Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team CCPA, Itemba security special intervention unit, ADT, and Magenta reacted swiftly on the information and apprehended the suspect, who is also linked to a high-profile criminal syndicate.

  • Four suspected gang members arrested for assault:

Newcastle SAPS are investigating a case of assault GBH after four suspected gang members assaulted and robbed a man last week.

Imran Ghafoor of the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team (CCPA) said the victim had run into the CSC in a panic to notify police that he and his friend had been assaulted and robbed by four males.

A team consisting of the SAPS drug task team, SAPS stabilisation unit, and Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team (CCPA) quickly responded to the complaint and managed to track down the suspects who were positively identified by the victim.

All four men are suspected gang members and were charged with assault with deadly weapons.
