Police arrest suspect in stop-and-search operation
The recovered firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing
Visible Policing (Vispol) officers from Estcourt SAPS made an arrest during a stop-and-search operation in town on Saturday (March 2).
The vigilant officers apprehended a man who was found with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect initially attempted to flee but was quickly brought to ground.

SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan commented that, “Vispol officers were conducting routine stop-and-search operations in the CBD on Saturday morning when they noticed a man they considered to be suspicious and requested backup. When they approached the man, he ran off. The officers gave chase and apprehended him.”
A search turned up a pistol and ammo.
Khan added that the man was immediately arrested and appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court today (March 4).
He faces a charge of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
