Two suspects apprehended following CBD armed robbery

Around four to five suspects entered the store and robbed the staff at gunpoint before injuring one of the victims.

Two suspects were arrested and charged following a robbery at a business on Voortrekker Street on Friday, February 9.

Imran Ghafoor of the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team, around four to five suspects robbed the store staff at gunpoint before assaulting one of the victims with the firearm.

“A large amount of cash and cellphones were taken, and the victim was assaulted with a firearm.

“We were informed that the suspects were hiding out in Vryheid, and on Sunday, February 11, we conducted a sting operation in the vicinity of their whereabouts. However, the suspects managed to flee before we could apprehend them,” he explained.

Ghafoor added that they were then informed that the suspects had been spotted in the Mondlo area.

“We conducted a second sting operation and apprehended two suspects believed to be involved in the robbery. We also recovered the vehicle used to commit the crime as well as some of the stolen goods.”

The operational team consisted of the following members:
• Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team
• Zululand Task Team
• Pro 5 Security (Vryheid)

Ghafoor thanked everyone involved in the operation who contributed to the successful arrest.
