Public Safety officers praised as heroes by community

Bumbling suspect tumbles into pool in haste to escape

There was an attempted house robbery yesterday evening (January 23) in the Hospital Park area.

The intruder was spotted after he triggered the neighbour’s alarm system. He jumped the fence into a neighbour’s yard, once again triggering an alarm and creating panic for the homeowner, who was home alone at the time.

In a panic, the bumbling suspect fell into a swimming pool in a desperate attempt to escape. Scrambling, he managed to get out of the pool. He jumped another fence into a neighbouring yard, triggering more alarms.

A warning shot was fired by another homeowner, with the man then jumping another fence before hiding underneath a parked vehicle.

Emergency WhatsApp groups in the area promptly spread the word, with NN Alarms and concerned Hospital Park residents responding to the scene.

Residents from Hospital Park expressed their thanks to two Public Safety officers, Mr T Khumalo and Mr Maunde, who also responded to calls for help and bravely assisted with the arrest of the suspect.
