Intelligence-driven operation results in three suspects being arrested

Police later recovered six live rounds of ammunition for the 9mm pistol plus 16 small parcels of heroin.

Three suspects were apprehended for being in possession of drugs and illegal firearms following an intelligence-driven operation conducted in the Osizweni policing area from September 8 – 9.

Lizzy Arumugam, of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications Department, said Osizweni SAPS raided several houses in section (A), Osizweni, after receiving information regarding drugs.

“On arrival at the said place (s), members arrested a 38-year-old suspect for the possession of two small parcels of crystal math and one half of a mandrax tablet with a star. The estimated street value of the recovered drugs is estimated at around R250.”

Police then descended on a house in the Blaauwbosch area, Msomi Stand, after receiving follow up information. Here, they arrested a 30-year-old suspect for the possession of five small parcels of crystal meth, valued at around R500.

Thereafter, police arrested a third suspect in Manzana after recovering a 9mm pistol, with one empty magazine. Police later recovered six live rounds of ammunition for the 9mm pistol plus 16 small parcels of heroin.

The estimated value of the recovered firearm is R13 000 while the seized heroin was thought to have a street value of R800.

All suspects are soon to appear in court.
