Suspects arrested for possession of drugs

Cash suspected to be the proceeds of crime was also seized

The Ladysmith SAPS specialised multi-disciplinary team made numerous arrests over the weekend. The team conducted operations in the Ladysmith area, concentrating on narcotics.

Several suspects aged between 21 and 36 were arrested.

A man was arrested at his residential premises in the lower CBD after being found in possession of a large number of capsules suspected to be heroin, as well as mandrax tablets. A small amount of cash suspected to be the proceeds of crime was also recovered.

A second suspect, aged 35, was traced and located in the CBD. On searching him, officers found pieces of rock cocaine and crystal meth.

A sting operation conducted in the Leonardsville area resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old coloured woman. She was also found in possession of a large stash of capsules suspected to be heroin.

Four other suspects were arrested in different areas of town for being in possession of narcotics.

All the arrested suspects appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court earlier this week, facing charges of dealing or being in possession of illegal substances.

The recovered narcotics are valued at over a quarter of a million rand.
