Pedestrian killed after truck driver loses control

A pedestrian was killed on Friday evening (July 28) after a driver lost control of his heavy motor vehicle at the intersection of FW Beyers and Drakensberg Roads.

According to sources at the scene, it was believed that while traveling towards Barry Hertzog Park, the driver had allegedly lost control of the vehicle and went over an island, hitting a palm tree and then the pedestrian before coming to a standstill.

Charles Steyn of Magenta Medical Services said they arrived on the scene at around 22:35.

“Upon arrival, it was found that a pedestrian was seriously injured was declared dead at the scene by EMS. The driver of the HMV however, was found a while later and treated for moderate injuries before being transported to the hospital for further medical care,” explained Steyn.

The exact cause of the accident is unclear at this stage and will remain subject to further police investigation.
