Four suspects detained after a spate of horrific gang related crimes in Osizweni

Newcastle law enforcement has again helped Osizweni feel a bit safer after the apprehension on July 23 of four men, believed to be behind as string of horrific crimes in section E.

Imran Ghafoor of the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team said the men are believed to be members of the notorious gang known as ‘Abnormal’.

The men, aged between 20 and 30 years, started their crime spree on Sunday, breaking windows at seven homes and setting fire to three of the houses.

The men also forced a woman out of her home and took her to an isolated area where she was repeatedly gang-raped.

The crimes were reported to the Osizweni SAPS, which led to an intelligence-driven operation between members of the Newcastle Crime Fighters Task Team, the Amajuba District SAPS, and Optimus Protection Services.

The operational team gathered information which led them to the suspects responsible for the day’s terror. Officers also recovered unlicensed firearms.

The suspects were arrested and charged with malicious damage to property, arson, kidnapping and rape, and will soon be appearing in court.

“We congratulate the team on their success in responding within 24 hours. Well done to all those who were involved,” Ghafoor concluded
