Police find drugs, firearm and ammunition

Officers swooped on a residence after conducting surveillance on a suspected drug dealer

Police recently conducted searches in the Ezakheni area, which focused on illegal firearms and drugs.

Two suspects, aged 37 and 58, were arrested. They were found in possession of a revolver, ammunition, 54 capsules suspected to be heroin and eight mandrax tablets.

Officers from the Uthukela District Crime Intelligence Unit had been conducting surveillance on an identified suspect who was believed to be dealing in drugs in Ezakheni D-Section. The officers swooped on the man’s residence in the early hours of Saturday morning (June 24) and caught him unawares. They found him to be in possession of drugs and immediately arrested him.

Upon further investigation, it was established that an unlicensed firearm was stashed at another premises. The officers located the premises, where they found a second suspect who was in possession of a revolver and ammunition. The suspect was also immediately arrested.

Both suspects made an appearance in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court on Monday (June 26).

They face charges of dealing in drugs and being in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition. The recovered firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing.
