Community responds in numbers to armed robbery

People are encouraged to join the CPF groups around town

An armed robbery took place on Tuesday (June 13) in the Rose Park area. A ‘call for help’ was circulating on WhatsApp groups, which led people to come out in numbers to assist.

Speaking to Abdul-Karrim Hoosen, who is the chairperson of the Rose Park and Central Business District CPF, he said he wishes to thank the public at large, security companies, neighbourhood watches, CPF and SAPS who responded in huge numbers to a voice note requesting assistance with regards to the armed robbery.

”It really was a sight to see how people came together from different areas to help. Our family of Ladysmith joined hands, some armed, some with battens, others with spotlights, and even a few quad bikes. People, without hesitation, joined the SAPS in search of the suspects. This shows that our community has had enough of crime.

“We are no longer going to sit and be statistics; we are not tolerating crime in our town any longer!

“We have neighbourhood watch groups and this is exactly what they should be used for. No matter how small a crime, put it on the group and let’s all assist each other in whatever way we can. Together we can stop these thugs from robbing innocent people. Good work, Ladysmith! Keep it up!” said Hoosen.
