Arrest for possession of illegal firearms

It is suspected that the firearms were used in recent violent attacks

A 40-year-old man was arrested in Ekuvukeni recently for having illegal firearms and ammunition. 

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan, the suspect was found in possession of an AK-47 rifle with two magazines, a 9mm pistol and an assortment of ammunition for several high-calibre assault rifles which he could not present a licence for. 

The man has appeared in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court.

Police suspect that the recovered firearms were used during recent violent attacks.

The guns will be sent for ballistic testing and police investigations are continuing.
