The accused viciously attacked a 68-year-old man with a garden spade
Shile Elais Dladla has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for murder and another 15 years for aggravated robbery. 10 years of the robbery sentence is to run concurrently with the murder sentence.
In May 2021, Shile attacked Zanempi Mdlolo (68) at his home in the Mtebhelu area of Sahlumbe in Weenen.
The victim was assaulted with a garden spade, and was robbed of his wallet and cellphone. He sustained serious injuries and passed away while receiving medical attention. The accused fled the scene prior to police arriving.
Constable M Mngadi, a detective on standby, attended to the crime scene. His thorough and swift detective work resulted in the arrest of the accused a short while later. The accused was found in possession of the deceased’s cellphone and cash. He was detained and bail was opposed by the state.

The evidence against the accused was overwhelming and he was sentenced last week in the Estcourt Regional Court. The investigating officer was elated with the sentence.
