Business robber nabbed

The Uthukela Crime Intelligence officers traced the suspect more than 60km out of Estcourt

A suspected business robber failed to escape the long arm of the law when he was arrested more than 60km out of Estcourt on February 28. It is believed that two suspects robbed a furniture store in the CBD and then fled in a getaway vehicle.

“Uthukela Crime Intelligence officers sprung into action. The officers traced and located a 43-year-old suspect in the getaway vehicle. The suspect was arrested in the Ladysmith CBD. He was found in possession of a pellet gun that resembled a 9mm pistol,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

Police are still hunting for the other suspect. The arrested man appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court, where he faced a charge of business robbery.

“The Uthukela District Crime Intelligence Unit and Ladysmith Rapid Response Team were responsible for the recovery and arrest. Investigations are continuing,” added Khan.
