Police commended for clampdown on firearms

The seized firearms will be sent for ballistic testing

Two people were arrested after police in the Upper Tugela area found them to be in possession of ammunition and a firearm.

In the first incident, police were searching for stolen property in the Hoffenthal area when they discovered unlicensed ammunition.
A 27-year-old was arrested and charged.

Thereafter, a 60-year-old man in the Mshayeni area was arrested when police found him with an unlicensed pistol.

“Officers were acting on an anonymous tip-off when they made the arrest. The recovered firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

The Uthukela district commissioner, Major General Jabulani Khumalo, has commended the officers for clamping down on crime and removing illegal firearms from the hands of criminals.
