Protesters unhappy about rapist’s release

The protesters demanded that no bail be granted for the accused

A suspected rapist appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court this morning (January 12). It is alleged that he raped a teenage boy on January 3.

Demanding that no bail be granted for the accused, ANC Women’s League members and social workers picketed outside the court in support of the victim and his family.

The protesters were upset, as the suspect was released pending further investigation.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan commented that this investigation is ongoing.
