Trio nabbed with illegal firearms

The suspects have appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court

A weekend sting operation in Ntabamhlophe netted three suspects, and saw three unlicensed firearms and ammunition being recovered.

Members of various policing units, as well as a security company, acted on information they had received about a suspect allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“The information led them to the KwaNdaba area, where they pounced on a 39-year[1]old suspect who was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol, as well as ammunition,” commented police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

The team then travelled to the Emahendeni area, where a 28-year-old suspect was arrested. According to police, he is believed to be linked to armed robberies in Ntabamhlophe.

The operation ended off at a homestead in the Mdwebu area, where a 30-year-old suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed 7.65 pistol, as well as ammunition.

The arrested suspects have been charged with being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as robbery.

They appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court.

The Uthukela Crime Intelligence Unit, Ntabamhlophe Visible Policing Unit, Wembezi Visible Policing Unit, officers from the South African National Defence Force, as well as officers from a local security company were responsible for the arrests and recoveries.
