One dead in Lorne Street shooting

The man was killed in a hail of bullets while seated in his car

Police have confirmed that a 58-year-old man lost his life after a shooting in Lorne Street earlier this afternoon (November 9).

According to initial investigations on scene, it is believed that the man was sitting inside a stationary private vehicle when he was shot at.

“Another vehicle drove next to his and started firing shots, killing him,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

Witnesses heard several consecutive gunshots fired at about 14:45.

“People rushed to see what was happening and we saw a vehicle on the side the road. It was very scary, first hearing the shots and then knowing that someone is dead,” said one witness.

Lorne Street has been closed while police gather evidence and the scene is cleared.

“Police are on scene where several cartridges have been found,” confirmed Khan.
