Man arrested for firearm possession in Wembezi
The man faces charges of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition
A stop-and-search operation in Wembezi proved successful for police.
Wembezi Visible Policing officers conducted the search in Nkwezela on October 28.
During their inspections, a 43-year-old man was found to be in possession of a 9mm pistol with two rounds of ammunition.
He was promptly arrested.
“The suspect appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The recovered firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to ascertain if it has been used in any crimes in the country,” commented police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.
