Police nab two and recover revolver after armed robbery

Lieutenant Colonel Moodley and her team have been commended for their work

Estcourt police have been lauded for arrests and recoveries made last night (October 26), which has unravelled a web of more crime.

Police received an alert of a robbery late last night.

A truck driver and his crew had been robbed of cash and cell phones while in the vicinity of the Midway off-ramp on the northbound lane.

“It is alleged that the truck driver experienced a problem with his vehicle and stopped to investigate. He and his crew were suddenly confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a revolver,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

Once the incident was reported to Estcourt police, Detective Commander Lieutenant Colonel D Moodley and her team, which also included security officers, launched a manhunt for the pair.

“After an extensive search, in the early hours of this morning two suspects were arrested. They had been hiding in a bush along the N3. They were found in possession of the stolen property as well as a revolver and two rounds of ammunition,” added Khan.

Further investigation revealed that the recovered firearm has been linked to an armed robbery that occurred recently.

“One of the arrested suspects has been linked to other cases that are being investigated by the Estcourt detectives,” said Khan.

The duo will appear in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court where they will face charges of armed robbery.

Lt Col Moodley and her team have been commended by Uthukela District Commissioner Major General Jabulani Khumalo.
