Killer to spend 27 years behind bars

The investigating officer welcomed the sentence and said it sends a clear message to anyone else out there who has violent intentions

The case concerning a fatal stabbing that took place in October last year was recently finalised in court and the accused received a hefty sentence.

Jacob Mbongiseni Makhubu (50) was stabbed to death in the Peacetown area.

Two of his family members were also stabbed, but they survived.

A case of murder, attempted murder and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm was opened and Sergeant BX Zwane of the Ladysmith Serious & Violent Crime Team was tasked with the investigation.

The suspect, a neighbour of the deceased, was immediately arrested.

He made an appearance in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court, where he was remanded into custody.

The case was remanded several times and was finalised last week in the Ladysmith Regional Court.

The accused, Mbuso Ntethelelo Kubheka (23), was found guilty and sentenced to 27 years’ imprisonment – 20 years for murder; five years for attempted murder; and two years for assault.
