Arrest for possession of stolen vehicle

The case has been remanded to October 28 for further investigations

A 38-year-old man was arrested on Friday night (September 23) for being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

The vehicle was stolen on Friday and detectives from the Uthukela Vehicle Crime Investigating Unit immediately started tracing it.

At about 20:00 that evening, the detectives intercepted the vehicle travelling towards the Amangwe area of Loskop.

When they tried to stop the bakkie, the driver, who was alone at the time, abandoned the vehicle and ran into dense bush. The officers pursued and arrested him.

Several pieces of evidence, including a remote jammer, was recovered in the bakkie.

The suspect has been profiled and made a brief appearance in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Monday (September 26). He has since abandoned his bail application.
