Task force nabs suspected criminal

Through combined efforts, three people were arrested

Working together, police officers from Amangwe (Loskop), Estcourt and Wembezi were successful in tracking down and arresting a suspected criminal.

On September 17, Amangwe police received information that an alleged criminal had been shot and was being treated at a ‘safe house’ in Loskop.

“The information alleged that he was to be transported to a medical facility outside the Uthukela District. He and his accomplices were doing their best not to be detected by police,” explained police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

Police from Loskop teamed up with their colleagues from the neighbouring towns of Estcourt and Wembezi to form a task team and devise a plan of action.

“They strategically positioned themselves and waited for the ‘pick-up vehicle’. When the car came into sight, the officers pounced on the safe house and the vehicle simultaneously,” explained Khan.

Three men aged 26, 30 and 56 were arrested.

The suspected criminal (who was injured) was admitted to Estcourt Hospital, where he is currently under police guard.

The other two suspects appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Monday last week.
