Suspected nabbed in possession of revolver
The police team followed a lead to a house in the Jakkalspan area.
During a recent intelligence driven operation, members of Osizweni SAPS arrested a 31-year-old suspect for illegally possessing a firearm.
According to Lizzy Arumugam from Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications, members were following up on information pertaining to a business robbery in the area.
Information led them to a house in the Jakkalspan area, where they discovered a suspect in possession of a .38 Special revolver (Taurus) with a wooden grip,” she explained.
Members also found a spent .38 Special bullet casing and a leather gun holster.
When questioned by police, the suspect could not explain how he came into possession of the firearm, bullet or holster. The suspect was then arrested and charged.
Since then, the suspect has appeared in court. Further investigations are currently underway.
