Sarel Cilliers celebrate their top achievers at prize-giving

The Dux learners of 2024 were Amahle Thwala for Maths and Adinda Niemann for Maths Literature, both of whom have excelled in their various subjects this year.

Sarel Cilliers High School held their Grade 12 academic prize-giving last week, where the outgoing matriculants of 2024 were awarded academic accolades and the new head prefects for 2025 were announced.

The head boy is Simphiwe Zuma, Deputy of Culture – Simion Seethal, and Deputy of Sport – Andile Ntuli.
The head girl is Hollyn Benadie, Deputy of Culture – Sbongakonke Ntshangase, and Deputy of Sport – Jenor Joubert. “Well done to the future leaders of the school; we know you will have a very challenging but very rewarding year ahead.”

Biggarsberg Primary School continued with what has become a much-anticipated tradition as part of the matriculants’ final days at school, with the Grade 1 pupils of Biggarsberg visiting Sarel Cilliers to meet the outgoing matrics so they can offer best wishes and present good luck cards to the Grade 12s. The nervous first graders soon warmed to the task as they were warmly welcomed by the educators and learners, who greatly appreciated the visit and the well wishes. There were smiles and hugs all round. This is a symbolic moment for many of the staff as they witness the younger learners who are just starting their educational journey interact with those older learners who are now taking the final steps in completing their many years at school.
As the year draws to a close, the final cricket games for the year continue. Sarel Cilliers played a successful game against Pongola last week as they conclude the T20 matches. With only a few matches left, the boys are committed to doing their best and gaining valuable experience for next year.

The Sarel Cilliers debating teams travelled to Newcastle last week to take part in a tournament. Sarel Cilliers acquitted themselves well, with orators Hollyn Benadie, Iesayvaani Kali and Lwandle Gama presenting insightful and well-formed arguments.
With several schools taking part, the team faced stiff competition but thoroughly enjoyed the day and the experience.
Six learners left for Durban on Friday to take part in the United Nations Debate, in the format of a formal UN summit meeting, where the learners presented pertinent insights into the contribution of many countries to our world economy and care of our planet. This is the first time Sarel Cilliers has taken part in this competition and the learners returned very much enriched by the experience.
