Umzinyathi SAPS commissioner calls on all departments to step up fight against crime

The purpose of the meeting was outlined by Lieutenant Colonel Langa, who highlighted the district's challenges, particularly regarding contact crimes - including murders stemming from faction fights among different families.

A call was made for all government departments and various community groups to work together to curb crime in the Umzinyathi area at the District Commissioner’s Imbizo held in Kranskop last week.

Delivering the keynote address, Major General Francis Slambert (District Commissioner) urged all ‘sister departments to work closely with the SAPS in fighting crime’. She called on police officials to strive to bring services closer to the community and ensure their safety.

There were also speeches by a representative from Correctional Services, who gave insight into rehabilitation efforts and their role in community safety, while a Justice spokesperson discussed legal support mechanisms for affected families.
District CPF chairperson Mr Ndlela emphasised the importance of community policing and co-operation.
The district commissioner, deputy mayor and ward councillor all commented that a sports event would help bring together the community.
