Hardworking ‘men and women in blue’ from Umzinyathi district hailed for their dedication

The hardworking men and women in blue were honoured for their dedicated service when the SAPS Umzinyathi District Commissioners Excellence Awards was recently held in Greytown.
Hosted by Umzinyathi SAPS Commissioner, Major General Francis Slambert, the ceremony was a significant occasion that celebrated excellence within the SAPS and among its partners, recognising outstanding contributions to policing and community safety.
The event was graced by various esteemed guests, including Simanga Mabaso (a Member of Parliament who plays a vital role in acknowledging the efforts of the SAPS) and Mrs Mkhize (Department of Community Safety & Liaison). “The presence of sponsors such as Old Mutual, Mr Aheers and others was also noteworthy.
Their involvement was instrumental in making the event a success,” noted Umzinyathi SAPS spokesperson Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana.
Partners in the fight against crime – including security companies like Field Security, 360 Boys Security, Discover Grace Safety and Security, and NZ Risk Management – were key participants in the event.
Their collaboration with the SAPS was recognised and celebrated throughout the afternoon.
The ceremony honoured achievements in various categories, reflecting diverse contributions to the district’s policing efforts.

 

 

‘Man of the Year’ Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana of the District Office with Major General Slambert.
‘Sportswoman of the Year’ Constable Thobeka (Phungula-Dundee SAPS). An athlete at district, provincial and national level.
Sportsman of the Year Constable Sicelo Ndlovu-Dundee. Scelo plays golf and soccer where he represents the SAPS.
Person with Disability of the Year – Mrs Lazaros (Dundee SAPS).

The categories included:
Administration Team of the Year – SAPS Glencoe support;
Visible Policing and Operations Team of the Year – SAPS Glencoe K9;
FCS (Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences) Team of the Year – SAPS Greytown FCS;
Woman of the Year – Constable Predeepkumaar;
Man of the Year – Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana (District Office);
Sportswoman of the Year – Constable Thobeka Phungula (Dundee SAPS);
Sportsman of the Year – Constable Sicelo Ndlovu (Dundee);
CPF (Community Policing Forum) Member of the Year – Mr Gwamanda (deputy district CPF chairperson);
Person with Disability of the Year – Mrs Lazaros (Dundee SAPS).
In addition to the police members, security companies were awarded certificates of appreciation.
This recognition was a testament to their continued support and collaboration in the fight against crime, highlighting the importance of partnerships in ensuring community safety.
Major General Francis Slambert concluded the event by expressing gratitude to all sponsors, partners and attendees who contributed to the success of the awards ceremony.
Her words reinforced the collective effort required to maintain and improve safety and security in the district.
