Murderer, rapist and robber jailed in two separate court cases in the Umzinyathi district

Major General Slambert of the Umzinyathi SAPS District has thanked detectives for well-conducted investigations.

A man who stabbed his brother to death in January 2023 was jailed for 14 years when he appeared in the Dundee Magistrate’s Court.
The court heard that in January 2023, Thokozane Buthelezi (53) attacked his sibling in the Shiyani (Rorke’s Drift) area. He died after being stabbed several times.

In a separate case, a man who raped and robbed a woman was jailed for life plus three years when he appeared in the Greytown Regional Court.
Bongani Ngcobo (28) attacked the woman (37) in July 2019 while she and her sister were walking in the Emagubulundu area under the Ematimatolo policing precinct.
One of the women managed to flee while her sister was attacked by Ngcobo who dragged her towards a river, raped her and robbed her of her belongings among other possessions.
The case was assigned to Sergeant Lungisani Xaba of Greytown Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Investigation Unit, who arrested the suspect the following day. Necessary evidence was gathered and well presented before the court.
