Private businesses forced to jump in and assist Endumeni municipality

After a 14 day power outage private businesses in Dundee have come to the rescue of the Endumeni Municipality to assist in replacing the cabling.

Private businesses are lending a hand to help Endumeni Municipality electricians fix multiple cable faults which have left parts of the Avon industrial area without power for 14 days.

Two weeks ago a dip in power caused by a trip at Eskom’s Blood River facility caused major damage to Dundee’s old electrical infrastructure.

Electricians have had their hands full replacing the cabling. Their efforts are hampered by a lack of resources and personnel.

Today, private businesses assisted by transporting the roll of cable and also providing a hoist and labour.

The municipal crane truck crashed almost two years ago – allegedly by an under-the-influence official who has since left the municipality.

A private business also spent R8000 to hire a thumper – a machine used to detect cable faults – after the municipal one was stolen some time ago.  The stolen thumper was said to be valued at R300 000. It was claimed at the time that no case had been opened with the SAPS but this could not be confirmed.

Businesses in the affected area have reported losing huge amounts of business due to the outage.

A response has been asked from the municipality and an update will be given when this is received.
