Police ladies target criminals in the Umzinyathi District

The ladies in blue have swept through the area in a bid to root out criminals.

Several arrests were made as the SAPS in the area marked Women’s Day with a sweeping operation in the district led by the women in blue and fully supported by their male colleagues.
The operation started in Nquthu on Friday and included roadblocks, liquor outlets compliance inspections, raids on illegal shebeens, known suspects raids, and stop and searches.

The operation saw the arrest of three suspects for the possession of drugs, one for having an unlicensed firearm and ammunition while illegal shebeens were closed and six motorists fined for road traffic transgressions.
The operation moved to Glencoe on Saturday with a similar modus operandi. Two arrests were made for drug possession, one for having an illegal firearm and ammunition while implements usually used for burglaries were also seized. Three illegal shebeens were closed.

All the arrested suspects will appear in Nquthu and Glencoe Magistrate Courts soon.
The District Commissioner Major General Francis Slambert, who is also the Provincial Women’s Network Champion, thanked all the members who were involved in the operations. She said: “The hard work of the members and their commitment e not only ensured the safety and security of our communities but have also highlighted the strength and unity of women in law enforcement”
