Sentraal pipped at the post in rugby showdown against Piet Retief

Sentraal did not disgrace themselves and put in plenty of hard yards to ensure that the strong home team did not have everything their own way.

It proved to be a bridge too far when Sentraal narrowly missed out on a league final win after going down ‘away’ to Piet Retief on Saturday.
Sentraal beat the Piet Retief outfit in Glencoe earlier in the season, but at ‘home’, the Mpumalanga men are a handful.
Piet Retief scored two converted tries in the first half, to which Sentraal answered with a penalty via Hanru van Zyl.

Going into the break 14-3 down, Sentraal were stronger in the second stanza, with Siyabonga Mofokeng scoring a try that was converted by Hanru. Piet Retief could only muster a penalty in the second half to win 17-10.

They will now meet Vryheid in a Murray Cup encounter – watch the Courier for details.
