Fires, wind batter Dundee area
Fires have been ravaging the area since the onset of the Berg winds.
Thick, choking smoke is hanging over Dundee today after a veld fire swept through dry grass in the lower Mpati area.
Volunteers were out containing the blaze that burnt the grass close to homes and the cattle pound.
The traffic department closed Smith Street at one stage as visibility was down to zero.
The gale force winds have battered the district since the weekend as the country has been enveloped by a series of cold fronts.
