No love for abandoned Dundee Tennis Club

The thieves used the Covid-19-induced lockdown to strike and started removing window frames and piping, etc. From there, the deterioration spread.

The Dundee Tennis Club, which for years staged exciting tournaments that attracted players from around the district, has decayed into a sad monument of vandalism and neglect.
The club, adjacent to Dundee Golf Club, is rundown and all the fittings in the clubhouse have been ripped out by thieves.
The courts lie forlorn, with weeds gradually reclaiming the ground.
There is an air of sadness around the facility and a memorial stone (one assumes to a founding member of the club) stands as a sad reminder of those who dedicated themselves to building up a complex from which so much joy was derived.

The clubhouse has been virtually taken apart.

The municipality (who are the owners of the land) at one stage advertised a tender for anyone interested in leasing the buildings and property, but there were no takers.
One former tennis player commented that he is not surprised, because anyone leasing the club would have their work cut out to bring it back into a viable option.
Fencing around the courts has also been taken and there are fears that local so-called ‘paras’ will use the property as a hangout from where to conduct their nefarious activities.
For now, it remains another sad, abandoned place in our town.
