Final parade and salute for respected Dundee historian, author

Pat was also an active member of the Moths and was the Old Bill and chairman of the Talana Museum Board of Trustees.

Touching final tributes were paid to Pat Rundgren at the Endumeni Isandlwana Moth Shellhole on Saturday when over 100 mourners gathered to say farewell to a husband, father, tour guide, author and historian.
Moths from around the Northern KZN area attended in full uniform, with Sean Friend of the Monte Stanco Moth Shellhole in Newcastle overseeing a Moth parade and funeral service.

There were words of remembrance from family members (with a particularly touching one from son Neale), friends, fellow Moths and Cllr Naresh Gopie (who served with Pat on the Tourism Dundee Committee), while Patricia Zoya of the Tourism Office recounted Pat’s sharp wit and self deprecating humour when it came to joking about his ‘one plastic leg’.

Cllr Gopie recalled Pat’s huge contribution to tourism and his valuable and ‘unequalled knowledge of local history and history in general’. His loss has left ‘a tremendous void in the local tourism industry, to which he made a huge contribution’.
