Dundee SAPS, farmers apprehend stock thief

Further investigation revealed that four of the cattle had branding that had been tampered with, while the fifth animal had no branding marks at all.

A suspected stock thief was arrested late Friday after he was found towing a trailer loaded with five head of cattle.
The 24-year-old was spotted driving on the R33, Dundee/Helpmekaar road, by a patrol official from Dundee’s SAPS Rural Safety Unit.
“The officer followed the bakkie and trailer while waiting for backup. Upon the intervention of the Crime Prevention Unit, Glencoe Stock Theft and Endangered Species, the motor vehicle was stopped and the driver produced incomplete documentation,” said Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana of the Umzinyathi SAPS office.
The suspect was immediately arrested.

The suspect was detained at Dundee police station and is set to appear in the Dundee Magistrate’s Court this week.
Andrew Adams of the Dundee Farmers Union thanked the SAPS and the farmers who assisted in pulling over the driver.
