Rorke’s Drift Museum and school damaged as storm sweeps through Dundee district

It has been a stormy Monday in the district with tornado-like winds striking parts of Newcastle, strong winds blowing trees over in Dundee and damaging a school at Rorke's Drift.

The administrative block at Oscarberg School, Rorke’s Drift, in Ward 21, Msinga municipality, was extensively damaged when strong winds hit the area this afternoon.

A section of the world-famous Rorkes Drift museum on the site of the Anglo-Zulu war of 1879 was damaged when a strong wind and rain storm struck the area on Monday.

Local farmer, Herman de Wet, reported pieces of roofing were lying scattered around.

 

The wind and rain storm is sweeping through the province having wreaked havoc in the Eastern Cape over the weekend.

The damage was confirmed by Phumlani Ntombela of Endumeni’s Disaster Management who said support was being sought to assist the school.

Details of any injuries at the school were not immediately known and more details will be published once these are provided.

The storm damage comes hours after a tornado-like wind struck a section of Madadeni near Newcastle causing extensive damage.

The Dundee is in for a stormy ride as the real first blast of winter hits the district.
