SAPS operations against illegal firearms continue to reap success

Police have in recent months conducted operations throughout the Umzinyathi district in a bit to rid the area of unlicensed firearms.

­SAPS operations to root out crime have been ramped up through the deployment of the national intervention operation throughout the Umzinyathi area.

This resulted in the arrest of a 37-year-old for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at Magobhe village under Emakhabeleni area in Kranskop.

Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana, SAPS spokesperson, said the arrest followed an intelligence drive operation.

Police arrived at the suspects’ residence where a -38 special revolver and ammunition were seized.

He was detained at Kranskop Police Station and he will soon appear in the Kranskop Magistrate Court.
