Dundee residents have been warned to be on the lookout for funny money. This comes after a local businessman, who declined to be named, said a customer attempted to pass him a R200 note that he was ‘100% sure was fake’.
“He was a random guy who came in and bought a second-hand book that cost R20. It was a Danielle Steele book and he did not strike me as the kind of guy who would be into reading nevermind a romantic novel.
“He gave me R200. The note felt strange – I handle a lot of money daily and this one just seemed suspect. I asked him where he got the note and he said the bank. He took the note back and said ‘Never mind I will go and exchange it and come back’ and of course he never did.”
The police have been informed and a warning has been sounded for shopkeepers to be vigilant when accepting notes.
