Meeting called for to revive Endumeni Chamber of Business

Previously, the Chamber of Business was active in encouraging new investment initiatives in the town.

Over the years, there have been numerous calls from business people, political leaders, and non-profit organisations to revive the moribund Endumeni Chamber of Business/Commerce.

The Chamber has had a solid record in Dundee – previous stalwart chairmen include Tony Wade, Johan Uys, Dave Durham and the late, SD Soni, and Evan Jones.

Previously the Chamber did their best to delay the closure of Consol Glass and helped facilitate with the municipality the sale of the old Alucab factory.

Now, moves are afoot to revive the Chamber following a meeting called for recently by the Endumeni Residents Association, ERA, to revive the Chamber which many feel will give the business community a solid voice in a town which has seen job opportunities plummet and new investment non-existent.

At the meeting, held at Amabutho Lodge, last month, a group of business people from throughout the municipal area bemoaned the lack of initiative from the municipality in attracting new investment.

It was noted that there are ‘well over 50 vacant plots in the industrial area but with a failed road infrastructure and poorly maintained verges, the attraction to open a factory or business in Endumeni is hardly feasible’.

An interim committee was identified and a formal founding meeting has been set for April 10, from 10am at the Amabutho Lodge on Victoria Street. All those with business interests are urged to attend.
