Would-be ‘assassin’ foiled following swift action by Dundee SAPS

The suspect was caught carrying the unlicensed firearm in Dundee's central business district.

A possible murder was prevented late yesterday, Tuesday, afternoon after the Dundee SAPS arrested a 50-year-old man near Boundary Road.

“The suspect was also found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. According to information received, the firearm would have been used to carry out a murder,” said SAPS spokesperson, Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana.

He said the arrest was carried out following an informer operation conducted by the Umzinyathi District Task after information was received.  The investigation continues.

The suspect is to appear in the Dundee Magistrate Court today, Wednesday, March 6, for his first appearance.
