Sarel Cilliers all set for bumper two day sports festival

The action gets underway on Friday and continues until Saturday evening.

This coming weekend is the highlight of the rugby season, with Sarel Cilliers hosting the Orange Grove Sports Festival on Friday and Saturday in Glencoe. Teams from all over will be there to play rugby, hockey and netball, with over 600 visiting learners ready to show their mettle on the Sarel Cilliers sports fields.
The entry fee is R20 per person and refreshments will be on sale. Come and join in for an exciting day of top-class sport. You will not be disappointed!
Sports start well
Sarel Cilliers had a busy sporting week last week, playing Harvest High School in friendly matches on Wednesday and then travelling through to Newcastle to take part in the Ferrum Falcons Sports Tournament. The teams played well and gave of their best. The scores were:
Netball first team won 43-11 against Pongola and lost 17-21 against NHS.
Netball second team won 13-11 against Ferrum and 14-8 against Vryheid. The other teams lost their games.
The girls’ hockey first team lost 0-1 to Vryheid, but beat Pongola 2-0. The second team lost 0-2 to Ferrum and 0-1 to Empangeni. The U/14 girls’ hockey team lost 0-1 to Ferrum, but beat NHS 1-0.
The boys’ hockey first team beat Empangeni 2-0, but lost to St Dom’s 0-2.
The second team won 2-0 against NHS and the U/14 boys won both their matches 2-0 (Ferrum) and 2-0 (NHS).
The rugby teams played some very exciting matches, with the first team beating Weston 25-8, second team beating Vryheid 17-3, U/16 defeating Empangeni 14-10, U/15 winning 19-3 against Empangeni, and U/14 losing 24-0 to Vryheid.
Sarel Cilliers’ athletes had an excellent evening in Vryheid, taking part in relay events, and brought home bronze, silver and gold medals, as well as breaking a relay record.
The school has some excellent athletes this year and looks forward to seeing the talented learners performing their best in Durban later this term.
