Madhan trial to resume next year as defence to launch another bid for bail

It is a murder trial that has gripped the town since March 2022 following the grim discover of the body of a young woman in a field near a railway line.

Father and son, Manoj (58) and Sanjoth (28) Madhan were back in Court this week on charges of the 2022 murder of Mercisha Tedpaul who was in a relationship with Madhan’s youngest son, Nishkar.

Mercisha (24) went missing on March 1, 2022, and following an intensive search her body was found four days later on a hill near a railway line on Watt Road. She had been strangled to death.

Initially, Sarika, Manoj’s wife, was also charged but the charges were withdrawn in November last year.

Madhan and his son have been in custody ever since their arrest.

Magistrate AJ Ferreira ruled that the case will continue on March 4. However, the Madhan’s attorney, Mello Shabangu,  intends to bring to court another bail application based on new facts.

See next week’s NN News section of the Courier for full details.
