Glencoe wrestling club earns yet another South African title

The local wrestling club is one of the Endumeni area's pride and joy when it comes to sporting prowess.

Wrestling for the NKZN Rhinos Wrestling Club, feisty Lolla Stoltz took home a South African title at the recent national wrestling championships in Pretoria.

Lolla won gold in the under-13 girls division in the 30-33kg weight division.

This is her second SA title and the local wrestling club’s 111th since they were established in 1987.

Terickha Basson won a silver medal in the girls under 15 years (49kg), after losing in an epic gold medal fight against Shanon from eastern Gauteng.

Shaun Stoltz and Logan Goosen brought home bronze medals. Shaun took third place in the competitive boys under 13 division while Logan Goosen had to dig deep to earn his bronze.

Logan, still 15, competed in the 92kg division but held his own to clinch the bronze.

Novice Liani du Preez wrestled in the under 13 years in the 33 to 36 kg division and won a bronze medal.

JJ du Plessis and JC Botha also represented KZN competing in the national trials.

The senior Rhino wrestlers also showed their mettle at the national trials with JJ du Plessis winning the 92kg division and will represent our country in the 2024 continental Africa championships.

JC Botha finished second in the 80kg division for boys under 15 years old. JC has now challenged the wrestler who took first place and will soon travel back to Pretoria to fight for national glory.

Liam Schonken, Ruben Eloff, Lethu Mthembu, Gumpie Venter, Tion Brown, and Mpho all represented Orange Grove KZN wrestling and fought like true champions although they did not win a medal.

The Northern KZN  Rhino wrestling club thanks everyone who contributed to making it possible for these dedicated athletes to represent their provincial team at the national championships.
