Reports of sleet from Glencoe as icy weather persists

The weather has shown itself to be very changeable...

Sleet is falling in Glencoe as the icy weather’s grip on the area deepens. Rain and unseasonal cold weather has enveloped the district following the extreme heat of last Thursday and Friday which saw the mercury touch 36 degrees.

From Saturday afternoon, the situation changed as rain and there were even reports of light hail falling. This morning,  Monday, residents in the Glenridge area, Glencoe, reported sleeting.

“There are snowflakes with rain – so it is sleeting as it is known,” said Ward 7 councillor, Saleem Adbdool. He urged motorists to proceed with caution as the roads will be slippery.

His warning follows two accidents reported on the Dundee/ Glencoe. In the first on Saturday morning, it appears as if a vehicle struck a barrier near the railway bridge. No other details were immediately available.

On Sunday evening, several people were said to have been injured when a taxi left the same road and struck a tree. Again, no other details were available.

The cold weather is likely to continue to at least Wednesday, according to the SA Weather Services. The outlook for the rest of the week for the area is:

Mon🌦️3|7°C☔️100%
Tue🌦️6|11°C☔️100%

Thu☁️9|26°C
