Has the weather gone crazy, residents wonder as snow falls in Fort Mistake area

Days after experiencing boiling hot weather, farmers in the Sunset Rest/ Fort Mistake area found that lands had been turned white.

The N11 in the Sunset Rest/Fort Mistake area is open to traffic following the snow that fell this morning.

The unseasonal snow sent the mercury plummeting and farmer, Fritz Botes, said he was surprised to find his lands turned white on October 30.

“The snow started melting at about midday. But the air is freezing,” he said. Temperatures are expected to rise again on Wednesday.

Snow also fell on Indumeni mountain which overlooks the Dundee district while sleet was reported in Glencoe and in other areas.

Many residents turned to social media to express their surprise of experiencing snow in late October.

“Maybe it is because the Springboks won the World Cup – but then the snow would have been green I guess,” quipped Courier reader, Brandon.

The cattle were shivering in the unseasonal weather.
