Endumeni residents warned to be on the look-out for ‘con couple’ who offer to purchase their homes

After gaining access to a property, the couple make off with goods including jewellery, ID documents and money

Residents have been warned to be on the lookout for a ‘con couple’ who approach homeowners in the suburbs on the pretext of wanting to buy the house.

After gaining the trust of the person in the house – be it the homeowner or the domestic help – the man and woman make off with goods including ID documents, money and in, one case, in Glencoe (reported on in the Courier in July), jewellery.

The Courier received information yesterday (Wednesday, October 11) from four residents who said that the couple had been at their homes.

In one case, money was stolen after the couple had gained access to the house.

In another incident, a vigilant homeowner, who had read the Courier report on the jewellery robbery in Glencoe was immediately suspicious and asked the couple to leave his property.

Similar incidents were reported in the Mpati and Strathmore Park areas.

The so-called ‘con couple’ were caught on CCTV camera approaching a homeowner in the Mpati area.

CCTV coverage from the Mpati area picked up the couple approaching a property on foot. Other residents said the man and the woman had been seen in a white car – believed to be a VW Polo or a Golf.

Anyone who is approached by the couple – said to be well-dressed and affable – is asked to call the SAPS.
