Acrid, black smoke billows over Dundee CBD

The Endumeni Fire Brigade was called to the scene to dampen the flames that are currently being fanned by a warm wind.

This morning, acrid smoke is filling the sky over Dundee’s CBD after a fire broke out on the abandoned Transnet site next to the Boulevard Centre.

According to guards at the Centre, it appears that those who were burning cabling in order to gain access to copper were responsible for sparking the fire that engulfed a pile of abandoned tyres and dry grass.

The station property has recently been neglected, and local business owners have complained about the complex being a sanctuary for vagrants.

Flames rip through the dry grass and dumped tyres.
